The qualification stage for ESL Cologne’s CS:GO Major has concluded, and the following teams have successfully qualified for the event to create a total of 16 teams:
- Team EnVyUs
Team EnVyUs beat Cloud 9 on Cobblestone to secure their place in the final 16, as expected. This left Cloud 9 and G2 in a best of one, winner qualifying for the major, and G2 comfortably sweft C9 aside on Cache to secure their place in Cologne. In other matches, FlipSid3 took down HellRaisers, Dignitas beat Tyloo, Gambit shocked G2 to secure their hard fought place, OpTic beat HellRaisers and FlipSid3 sent Immortals back to Brazil after their disappointing showing in Katowice.
Fans of Cloud 9 will certainly be disappointed that they’ll be unable watch their team battle it out with the worlds best, as well as fans of HellRaisers, but unfortunately the players didn’t step up when it mattered most, and I’m sure discussions will be taking place to work out where it all went wrong.
Speculation has been growing regarding the future of the Renegades team after their failure to qualify for the major, and potential internal issues have been mentioned between the players and organisation. It will be interesting to see how this story develops.
Congratulations to the players and organisations who managed to qualify for the upcoming Major, we look forward to seeing the teams battle it out in Cologne in July!

And then some of the players that failed to qualify:
Stewie2K played a very solid qualification tournament, and his individual performances were worthy of a place at the major, and he seemed to take the teams lack of qualification in the right way:
Sucks to not make it to every major. Still haven't got to sleep, will maybe post more thoughts when I get home! We're just as let down 🙁
