Astralis is the name that was chosen by all of the original five of ex-TSM’s Danish top team for their upcoming 2016 season. And it is not the name or the new organisation that is significant or surprising with this move, it is more so the fact that the players themselves have a larger role within the organisation than we traditionally see within the e-Sports scene. Astralis put out a post on their new website stating that the players are involved within a large number of the decisions made within the organisation as co-owners of the company. These include financial decisions, strategy, partners and the overall direction of the organisation.
The org has stated that the players will no longer have to worry about salary and contract issues, streaming demands that they have not themselves negotiated, or gear problems that can sometimes hinder other teams and organisations. This new approach should help put the players in control of their long term futures, and offer a level of security that many other players as part of other organisations don’t receive.
“We are committed to provide an environment for our players and fans, where they know what they can expect of us, no matter the situation. We believe that a transparent approach will help us build something sustainable in the industry, and also attract talent from every corner of our business”. – Frederik Byskov, Founder & Managing Partner
In addition to the original five players, a new addition has been made to the team, in the form of a coach. The team has hired Danny ‘zonic’ Sørensen to take charge of coaching the team to success in 2016. It will be interesting to see if Astralis can hit the heights of the top 3 team many have stated them to be, and I’m sure one of their main goals will be to win a major this year.
The roster is now as follows:
- Rene ‘cajunb’ Borg
- Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen
- Nicolaj ‘devve’ Reedtz
- Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen
- Andreas ‘Xyp9x’ Højsleth
- Danny ‘zonic’ Sørensen (Coach)
